How To Freeze a Whole Loaf of Sourdough Bread
- Make sure the sourdough bread has cooled fully before you wrap it for freezing. Ideally it should be allowed to cool for at least 6 hours before you wrap it for the freezer.
- Wrap the cooled sourdough loaf in plastic freezer wrap, ensuring that it is fully covered.
- Place the wrapped sourdough bread into a large zip loc bag. Seal it tightly, removing as much air as possible.
- Place your wrapped loaf of sourdough bread into the freezer. You can leave it in the freezer for up to 2 months with no loss of texture or taste. The sourdough bread will last longer than this in the freezer, however you may find that the taste and or texture is changed after being frozen for longer periods.
How To Freeze Sliced Sourdough Bread / sandwich bread/ dinner rolls / English muffin

Make sure the sourdough bread has cooled fully before you slice it for freezing. Ideally it should be allowed to cool for at least 6 hours before you slice it for the freezer.

Once your bread has cooled completely, if it is a loaf, slice it.

Wrap the cooled bread individually in plastic freezer wrap, ensuring that it is fully covered.

Place the wrapped bread into a large zip loc bag. Seal it tightly, removing as much air as possible.

You can leave it in the freezer for up to 2 months with no loss of texture or taste. The sourdough bread will last longer than this in the freezer, however you may find that the taste and or texture is changed after being frozen for longer periods.

Frozen slices of sourdough are best suited to toasting. You can also toast them from frozen.
How to refresh frozen sourdough bread loaf (Whole traditional loaf)
- Remove loaf from the freezer and allow to defrost at room temperature.
- Once defrosted, unwrap the sourdough and spritz it all over with water mist
- Place your damp sourdough bread in a hot oven (375F) for 10-15 min, until the crust is nice and crispy.
- Remove from oven and use as normal. You don’t need to wait for it to cool down, you can cut it warm.
